Chabwino Malawi

2025

Malawi

The project is located in several villages in Malawi, approximately 20 km from Zomba, where English is the official language, but most locals speak Chichewa. Work will occur during the dry season, with average temperatures around 24.5°C and minimal rainfall, although installations must be designed to withstand heavy rains during the wet season. Safety measures include hiring night guards for construction sites and securing materials to prevent theft. The project aims to design a pilot irrigation system to enable a second harvest and expand to other villages served by Chabwino, using a nearby river as the primary water source. Multiple scenarios for the irrigation system will be proposed, considering budget, sustainability, and long-term benefits, with adjustments to the budget allowed for significant improvements.
