Rwanda

Our main goal is to introduce new production techniques for Black Soldier Flies (BSF) farming, thereby providing a protein feed source as a substitute for expensive, and often imported, conventional protein feed sources like soybean meal and fishmeal for inclusive and sustainable pig and poultry feeding.

Specifically, we’ll optimize the drying process of harvested BSFL (BSF Larvae) as traditional drying methods have proven some limitations, are time-consuming and aren’t suitable for local conditions. We aim to do this by developing a cost-effective drying machine, capable of efficiently drying large quantities of BSFL in a short time-frame.

BSF farmers produce either on a small scale or on a large scale. Some of the former don’t have access to electricity, meaning we’ll have to adapt our installation accordingly, for example by using solar tools.

By building the machine, we intend to increase the farmers’ revenues, limit their losses, enable storage and transportation without cooling of BSFL, which in turn reduces the production cost and enhances food security.
