as a project student

Are you interested in carrying out a project on renewable energy, water or sustainable technology in our partner countries? On this page you will find more information about how a Humasol project works, what your ideal profile is and how to apply. A more detailed explanation can be found in the PowerPoint presentations ( Presentation Leuven and Presentation Ghent ) as used at the Humasol Information Day in early March.

Hoe een Humasol-project verloopt

A project at Humasol starts with a Student Kick-off where the general operation of Humasol is discussed and how we achieve international solidarity. You will be assigned a team, project and coach and there will be a small team building activity to get to know each other better.

During the academic year, you will work on the project as a team with the help of a coach – an experienced Humasol member – who is only too happy to share practical experience and be your first point of contact. Your preparation starts with a thorough literature study and good partner contact in the first semester. This will be followed by an intermediary report and presentation. The design is then concretized and practical aspects are taken care of. Your preparation ends with the final report and final presentation in April. During the year we provide sessions where the project is worked on together and updates are requested. We also offer a certificate for completing Intercultural Management & Communication (IMC) sessions. If everything goes well, Humasol will give you approval to carry out your project on location.

The project requires at least eight weeks to complete to ensure a good finish. After your return, you will write an (internship) report and share your memorable experiences during the annual Humasol return event.

An early application is necessary to start the project on time and to give sufficient time to our local partners to implement it. prepare project. An initial selection will be made at the end of March on the basis of an application form and a CV. We will then have an exploratory interview with the selected candidates and you will develop a small case as a team. We normally inform all applicants of our decision a week later. Please keep April 11 and 12 free for the job interviews and April 13 for the case day.

  • Can I take this project as an internship?
A Humasol project can be part of your study program as an internship for a number of courses and educational institutions. Depending on your educational institution, you can enter this for a certain number of credits. To find out what the exact options are at your faculty, you can contact the internship coordinator of your department. Since Humasol has already built up a lot of experience with projects and internships, Humasol members who have studied at the same faculty in the past can certainly help you to arrange everything practically. Have you graduated, or will you have graduated when the project is practically implemented? Then you can still participate in the projects as a volunteer. A project with Humasol can be a nice transition between your completed studies and your professional career.
  • Do I have to pay my own travel and accommodation costs?
Humasol provides financing for all project costs. These are all costs that a team must incur to design and realize a project. Transport costs at the location itself depending on the project are paid by Humasol, the costs to go from Belgium to the project location are not reimbursed by Humasol. The stay is always arranged in advance by Humasol in collaboration with the partner. Depending on the duration of the project and the project location, this cost will differ. At more expensive project locations, Humasol and the partner can partly contribute to the costs. Neither Humasol nor the local partner will intervene for other on-site expenses, such as food and drinks or tourist trips. Some students who have worked on a Humasol project in the past were eligible for a travel grant. Scholarships for projects carried out as part of your education are awarded by VLIR-UOS. Colleges and universities sometimes also have their own system for handing out scholarships.
