Hi, we are Kasper, Ruben, Kamiel, Mateo, and Eva, the five enthusiastic members of Team Entente PV and Biogas. The countdown for departure has begun, and we’re excited to leave for Senegal in just one month!
Our Project: Sustainable Innovations for Entente Diouloulou
In partnership with Entrepreneurs for Entrepreneurs and Entente Diouloulou, we have developed sustainable solutions for food storage and renewable cooking energy for the community of Entente Diouloulou. We’ll be installing a cooling unit powered by a PV system and a biodigester near the community kitchen.
Solar-Powered Cooling:
The cool chamber will be integrated into the kitchen building and powered by solar panels installed on the roof. First, this chamber will be insulated and then equipped with a single-phase cooling system. By using local weather data, including temperature and irradiance, we conducted simulations to determine the necessary cooling capacity and electrical power requirements. These simulations also helped us identify the optimal times for storing products to maximize efficiency.
Biodigester:
The second part of our project involves designing and constructing a small-scale biodigester. This system will convert organic waste into biogas and bioslurry, a nutrient-rich fertilizer, through anaerobic digestion. The biogas will primarily be used for cooking. We have chosen the appropriate digester design, optimized the process by setting key operational parameters, and designed a safe gas circuit to transport the biogas from the digester to the kitchen.
