Hello everyone!
We are Julie - the impulsive one, Tuur - the calm and steady one, Kevin - the 'stille waters diepe gronden' one, and Britt - the climate person one. Since September, we have been working together to tackle the challenge of building solar boilers to obtain warm shower water. Although we were randomly put into a group, our shared motivation has brought us a long way already! Soon, our project begins, and we can’t wait to put into action the plans we've developed this year.
Peruvian Partner
We are collaborating with Islas de Paz Peru (also known as Vredeseilanden Peru). They have taken up the challenge of improving the livelihoods of Peruvian farmers. A few years ago, they installed showers, but these aren’t being used due to the very, very cold mountain water. Our idea is to provide warm water so the showers will be used in the future!
Our Project
This year, we have done a lot of research and gathered information from various sources. Finally, we arrived at a design featuring a wooden box with HDPE tubes covered with a transparent sheet. These will be installed on the roofs, with the goal of having 22 boilers so that all the shower units are equipped with one. It wouldn’t be a Humasol project if the social aspect was not covered. Besides the technical plan, we are planning on conducting workshops. This way, small issues can be easily and cheaply resolved by the users themselves!
All of this will be in Spanish, of course, so we are very excited that we have already improved our skills in this widely used language and will continue to do so when we are in Peru. Tuur has a Duolingo streak of up to 200 days, so he is ready to rock and roll these workshops!
Excitement!
We are very excited that we can finally start the practical work after this very theoretical year! We are looking forward to meeting the partners and the villagers, getting to know the culture and the country, and taking our first hot shower!
