Clean Drinking Water in Abompe

2023

Ghana

Some of the communities in Ghana still rely on a limited number of manual water pumps. Due to the sharp rise in population numbers, the manual pumps are inadequate to meet the daily water needs of the inhabitants. Moreover, the access to proper sanitation across the country is even more serious. Contaminated water and poor sanitation are linked to the transmission of diseases such as cholera, diarrhea, polio…

Our project will aim to improve the access to clean drinking water in Abompe, Ghana, via public water taps and with the use of renewable energy. For this project Humasol works in collaboration with FOS, Stad Antwerpen, Farys, ABVV-Algemene Centrale Antwerpen, Ghana Council Belgium and the local partner Community Livelihoods Support Organisation (COLISO).

This project wants to create an improvement on the current living conditions on two different levels. Firstly, due to the increase of water taps less time will be lost waiting in long queues. Secondly, this will allow for a better general health of all inhabitants, resulting in less medical costs, fewer working days lost and a lower infant mortality rate.
