The project objectives prioritize providing solar panels for a water source with two pumps, installing a battery system to work with these panels, and programming a PLC for pump operation. Additionally, there is a goal to provide a battery for another source with an existing pump and solar panels. The main aim is to increase water availability for the village, as current supplies are insufficient. Chlorine filtration of the water, controlled by the PLC, is an optional project dependent on time and budget constraints. If the budget permits, extra solar panels and a secondary battery pack may also be added.
The Belgian partner, Herman Bruyndonckx, is an independent automation engineer with experience in various projects in Guatemala and knowledge of PLC systems, including Siemens Step 7 and ABB T200. The local partner, Norberto Baten, has ties to the project area, having hosted Herman during his time in Guatemala, and is currently supported by Herman in his engineering studies. Communication for the project will primarily be in Spanish, although Norberto and his wife are learning Dutch and plan to move to Belgium.
